The KitchenAid comes apart for easy cleaning and stays looking good for a long time. The Krups my mom has been using is one piece, and like most people I'm sure, she does not take time to clean that crazy thing often. I think most reviews have covered everything about this grinder well. I really have no idea why the Krups is rated so highly. Not an issue with the KitchenAid.Messiness: With the Krups, the top fits inside the bowl, therefore it has been in contact with the grounds, and they end up everywhere when you remove the top. (I see this product is currently unavailable but hopefully not permanently.).I have had this KitchenAid grinder for about 5 years now, and it still looks and works great.
Then I looked up the Krups grinder on Amazon and was shocked it has the same or better rating than the KitchenAid. It looks its age. I have had no complaints about it, but I thought it was a pretty average grinder until I had to use my mom's Krups grinder on a recent visit home. With the KitchenAid, the lid fits out side the bowl, and if you do not overfill the bowl (note the convenient fill line), grounds should not spill out, and the lid never comes in contact with them - the lid has no grounds stuck to it when you remove it.Clean up: I had no idea there were some grinders that didn't come apart for cleaning. I've used the two, and this KitchenAid is by far the better product. Wow.
As for the differences with the Krups.Evenness of grind: With the Krups, I noticed that even at a medium to fine grind, there were still large bits and the occasional whole bean.
It's just not quiet. The only downside to this grinder is that it's loud - but I don't think it's any louder than your standard grinder. We love this grinder. We particularly appreciate the large grinding basin and the large cup into which one can easily transfer the grounds - much less mess than the standard grinder with the tiny cup.
I am no good with time, but I would estimate at least ten years. g. My grinder was a gift from friends who shared our love of coffee.
I want another one, but I am having trouble finding one. ebay, craig's list, etc. I know all the tricks, e.
Mine finally wore out. It has been a faithful and loyal friend. I am sure I will find another, though it appears it has been discontinued.
I have had it a long time. I grind fresh beans every morning, and when going on vacation, I grind extra and pack them with us.
Every kitchen should have one. I can't imagine people having problems with this - or hurting themselves. Cleanup couldn't be easier - the whole thing can be cleaned. It's completely safe - you'd have to be completing misusing it to hurt yourself.
Really hope the fact that this is "currently unavailable" doesn't mean KitchenAid has gotten out of the coffee grinder business. And once you get it. Like I said, I hope this item is back soon, it makes a perfect present for the coffee lover on your list. This truly is the little coffee grinder that could - and does.
Whether it's coffee or spices or basil or even butter (yep, I've tried them all), this grinder does a dream of a job. It will last forever. I've had mine for over 5 years and it's still going strong. I can't see how that would happen.
Great value for the money. No operational problems. Have had this now for a couple of months. Grounds the beans just right.
